How does it work?   by Blurbings

Blurbings Seekers post digital galleys of their books on our website and Blurbings Writers download the work. After it is read (within 20 days), Writers submit a blurb to the book's profile page. We cross-reference the purchase order and approve the blurb. Once the blurb is approved, it appears on the book's profile page and the Seeker can use it.

Is my work protected?   by Blurbings

We require a pdf file of your book during purchase. It will be converted to our protected digital galley, which will disable copy/paste and print screen features to protect your work. It will also expire after 20 days preventing writers from keeping or reselling your work.

If the application has been tampered with, the protected digital galley will not open. If anyone attempts to insert a virus or forcefully steal the material, the application will lock and it will no longer open.

We took every measure to insure that your work will be protected, however we do recommend that all work submitted be copyrighted material. We cannot guarantee the complete protection of your work.

How does Blurbings protect my work?   by Blurbings

We hold complete control over the extraction of eBook files. This allows the eBook software to limit temporary files in the reader's system to just certain embedded objects, so that no text or images are stored in temp folders. The program can also disable cut-and-paste and drag-and-drop options to make the eBook content accessible only from the program's window.

If the application has been tampered with, the protected eBook file will not open. If anyone attempts to insert a virus or forcefully steal the material, the application will lock and it will no longer open.

Do I need my publishers permission?   by Blurbings

If you retain all the rights of your work, you may submit your work for our services. However, if you have signed a contract giving your rights over to the publishers you will need their permission.

What is a Digital Galley?   by Blurbings

A digital galley is an online version of a printed galley. Galleys are created prior to a book going into publication. The galleys are sent to reviewers and authors for blurbs and reviews. Galleys hold the text of the book and generally do not include images and are printed on 8.5 x 11 paper.

Who can blurb books?   by Blurbings

Other authors usually write Blurbs however, professionals in the field can also write them; for example, a psychologist can write a blurb for a book on stress or disorders. Professors who teach the subject of the book can also blurb books, for example, a professor in sociology can blurb a book on society or a professor in politics can blurb a book on politics. In addition, Owners of websites that deal with the topic of the book can submit blurbs; for example, the owner of a writers website can submit a blurb for a book on writing. Blurbing is not limited just to writers.

Any tips for writing Blurbs?   by Blurbings

Do not address the author directly when writing blurbs. A blurb may include your opinion while summarizing the book or talk about the author’s great ability with words. Be brief with what you say but make sure you get your point across. Well-composed blurbs will increase your chances of getting front page or back page exposure.

Can I see some Blurb examples?   by Blurbings

Here are a couple of blurbs written by Blurbings Writers:

Pax Authentica by Geoffrey Greer

"Will humanity, in some abstract sense, survive the extinction of flesh and blood? And will social evolution stay a pace ahead of the inevitable deterioration brought by universal enthalpy?  Pax Athenica is a worthy exploration of themes left unexamined by the Terminator films--or perhaps left on the floor of the editing room.  And at its best, Pax makes us feel the bonds and emotions that develop between these mechanical--but not inhuman--characters."

-W. Town Andrews, Jr. author of The Art of Hanging

A Man of His Word by Melvin Williams

"Part poetry collection and part self-help book, Mr. Williams blends poetry and instructions to live a better life into a breathtakingly wonderful volume. Insightful and inspiring, this book is a joy and blessing to read."

-A. Jarrell Hayes author of Heart and Soul of a Thinker

Why am I not receiving blurbs?   by Blurbings

First impressions are very important and you want to leave the reader wanting more. Your book may be great but how will people know if your summary is not? Interesting summaries have a faster turnaround time for blurbs. No one wants to blurb a book that sounds plain, cliché, typical or boring. If your book is a thriller, your summary should be suspenseful and riveting.

Well-written summaries indicate a great story. Authors want to blurb great stories because they have a higher potential of becoming successful. Would you blurb a book that sounds like it will sell only a few copies?

If your book is not receiving blurbs, please try re-writing your summary. If after two months, your book has not received a single blurb, we will refund your money.

Should I copyright my work?   by Blurbings

In 1989 The U.S. passed laws that caused the automatic copyrighting of any work that is put into a fixed medium (i.e. written down). This means that you don't have to file paperwork or put the (C) symbol on a work to have it be copyrighted in the U.S. However, filing federal copyright papers will increase the damages you can win in court if you prove another person infringed your works. It is recommended that you copyright your work.

What is the waiting list?   by Blurbings

When a Seeker's Package runs out of blurbs, the availability automatically changes to "Waiting List" status. The book cannot be downloaded and blurbed during this status, however, writers can place their names and e-mail addresses on the book's Waiting List. The Writers will be automatically notified once the Seeker’s book becomes available to blurb.
